Misery | Lovers & Other Strangers

Ok moviemainers, it is February and what am I thinking about is snow and Valentine's day.   Two films that fit the bill.   The first one is the 1990 film Misery directed by Rob Reiner and screenplay by one of my favorite writers William Goldman.   It is a story about a writer who in a snow storm runs his car off the road.   He is rescued by a nurse who helps to get him to her home to recover from his injuries.   Hang onto your seat !   Kathy Bates received the Academy Award for Best Actress for this film.   Stephen King considers this one of the best films from all of the films that have been made from one of his books.

Next is a really funny film it is called Lovers and Other Strangers, written by Joesph Bologna and Renee Taylor.  It is about a young couple who are about to get married and all the relatives in their lives.   It is the first film Diane Keaton played in and the song For All We Know was recorded by the Carpenters and won the Academy Award for Best original Song  in 1970.  I get a kick out of this movie as the characters resemble people I have met in my own life.

My plans are not fixed yet for the month of February where I will be,  anyone who would like to host let me know.  Movielynne

Looking forward to seeing Misery again. I remember it as being on of our favorites. Kathy Bates is truly wonderful in this part although I must say...

Lovers and Other Strangers looks light and fun. Needs to be after seeing Misery! February a great month to hunker down and watch some movies!

Just a quick note to let you know that the film Lovers and Other Strangers is going to be difficult to get as you can not stream it in or get it in Amazon. You can get it from netflix but it is backed logged a long wait. Sometimes Libraries can order it and get it much faster. I know I should check this out before I choose a film but I get an idea in my head and then that is it. Good Luck Movielynne

Yes, Lovers & Other Strangers is available in the library system. I found it there and am showing it on 2/27 to some of the few club members still here to rough out the Maine winter. If the Arizona fringe chapter of the club needs a copy, let me know!

The moviemainers go west group enjoyed the film, lots of laughs and Bea Arthur could not have been better. That role must have been written for her. I hope you all had a good time watching the film with the east coast branch and look forward to seeing you all soon.

ok so Misery was just as great the second time. I couldn't get over how it still holds up today. I was on the edge of my seat...wow what a psychological thriller.
Lovers and Other Strangers was so fun. I was lucky enough to see it with Lynne and Jim in AZ. So fun to visit their Vahalla. Loved seeing Diane Keaton as a youngster...
