Wine Month: A Good Year | Bottle Shock | Corked

The three movies for July are Bottle shock,  corked and my personal favorite A Good Year.  I am still working on the idea of a wine tasting party but if that does not work out, we are still doing these movies   Corked is a mockumentary comedy about a small group of California vintners who are vying for the honor in a wine competition.  It reminds me a little of a Christopher Guest movie you know with a similar form The Best In Show group of actors..      Bottle Shock is a dramedy based on the true 1976 wine competition when a California wine defeated a French wine.  Starring one of my favorite character actor Alan Rickman (ahh Colonel Brandon in Jane Austin's Sense and Sensibility loved  him in that part ).   The last my favorite of the group A Good Year   A british broker inherits a French chateau that belonged to his uncle he must go to France and settle his uncle's affairs including selling the chateau.  He starts to remember happy summer vacations with his uncle at the chateau, now this film has Russell Crowe and Marion Cortilland in it directed by Ridley Scott Now I know what some of you are thinking it is predictable I DO NOT CARE  it has wonderful French music and I think the writing is fun.  Favorite line in the film is when the caretaker asks the girl "where are you from?"  she answers Napa Valley  He saids "oh that is where they make fruit juice"  I hope you enjoy these films.  I hope you will leave a comment on the blog site on the movies, I love to read them I am dreaming about a fine Pinot Grigio let me know your favorite wine Movielynne

Lars & The Real Girl | Harold & Maude | Temple Grandin

Ok folks it is June and I know that some of you are back in town the movies for the month of June are two dramadeys a little drama and a little comedy both a little quirky.  Lars and The Real Girl starring Ryan Gossling, a man has a breakdown and falls in love with a doll it could have taken a wrong turn and become smutty, not at all very touching.

The next film is Harold and Maude a death obsessed  young man meets a fiesty widow who's High on life, they share a bond.  It was not popular when it first came out but now has a cult following.  These two films we will be discussing at the next get together.  Members ask for their choice and Pearl's choice this month is Temple Grandin starring Clair Dames, an autistic women who revolutionized practice for the humane handling of livestock on cattle ranches.
So see one movie two movies and member choice if you can fit it in your calender,  I will let you know when the next meeting will be  Movielynne

Anne Bancroft Month

Members  April is here and we have already had our movieclub supper.  Although we were to have a big group  the cold and flu season is still here.and on Saturday they were dropping like flies. we had six for dinner and a movie.  For all those who were not here we did something different, we watched the director's cut of the film.  It was the film the Thomas Crown Affair.  as the director speaks over the film telling blow by blow how he shot certain scenes and where he attained some of the props for the film you would find this interesting. ( I did! )  We did a light buffet supper in the barn while we watched the film, always fun.The Month of May is Anne Bancroft Month,  here is a little something you may not know about her, she was Italian she changed her name for the stage, she is one of only I believe  of twleve women to win a academy, golden globe and an emmy.  She was married for forty one years to Mel Brooks when ever he would get home and open the door to their apartment she would say oh good now the fun begins.   The two films we are suggesting is Fatso (this film she wrote and directed and produced and starred in.  The second is your choice some suggestions Garbo Talks, The Graduate, The Turning Point, one other I just remembered the part of Nicole Kidman's mother in Malice it is a small part but very juicey! Keeping the Faith,I am sure there are .    many more that my  brain is missing at this moment you get the picture I hope you will be able to join us for the next supper club we do not have a date set we will let you know.  hope to see you at the movies  movielynne

Steve Martin Month | Everyone Says I Love You

Hey club members,

A great time was had by all at Leslie and Jim's house for the January movie club dinner.  Many thanks to them for hosting.  For February, we've chosen a musical called "Everyone Says I Love You", a Woody Allen musical from the 1990s starring Julia Roberts, Goldie Hawn, Alan Alda, and Drew Barrymore.  It's hard to find so the back up musical selection is "Bandwagon" starring Cyd Charisse and Fred Astaire.  Also, lets include your choice of any of Steve Martin's films.  Some of my personal favorites are "Lonely Guy", "Bowfinger", "Roxanne", and "A Simple Twist of Fate".  There are many more to choose from, so feel free to explore.  Info regarding the next dinner will be announced soon.
